WESTWIND conducts blind reviews. That is, we review submissions anonymously, without the author's name attached.
GUIDELINES. All submissions should include a cover letter, including the following information: Name, Major, Year in School, Email Address, Previous Publishing Credits and a short paragraph of biographical information. ![]() SPECIFIC GENRE REQUIREMENTS. When submitting to Westwind, include in the subject line “Fiction Editor” or “Poetry Editor.” Dramatic Writing and all forms of miscellaneous prose go to the Fiction Editor. Please submit to ONE genre at a time, and only once during each reading period. The only exception is that artwork may be submitted concurrently with written work. POETRY. Send between 2-6 poems, typed single-spaced as one document with titles clearly indicated for each new poem. PROSE. Send one piece of short prose fiction, memoir, essay or creative non-fiction not to exceed 30 pages. Excerpts from longer prose fiction/memoirs/essays/creative non-fiction are acceptable if self-contained. Submissions should be typed double-spaced with page numbers clearly marked. DRAMATIC WRITING. Send one short piece of dramatic or screenwriting not to exceed 30 pages. Excerpts from longer dramatic works are acceptable if self-contained. Submissions should be typed single-spaced with page numbers clearly marked. ARTWORK. Westwind also seeks submissions of high quality, eye-catching artwork for the online journal and the cover of its print edition. Send 3-5 scans of artwork in any form (photography, sculpture, painting) along with the above cover letter. ![]() NOTIFICATION. Notification of publication typically occurs during the second week of the following quarter you submitted. Therefore, if you submit in the fall you will hear back in the winter.
